TFYP 03 | Don’t Forget The Groom

We’re going to make this one simple: don’t forget the groom.

So often, a lot of dreaming, research, and conversation circulating a wedding is about a brides dress (and her flowers, and her hair, and her…). There is nothing wrong with this; the bride should be stunning! But in our opinion, a grooms appearance is just as important.

Disclaimer: If you’re a bride-to-be reading this with a groom who you just don’t think is as important as you on your wedding day, let’s remember, he’s going to be in all of the photographs, too. And how he looks can make or break your images, no matter how fab you are (yeah, it just got real).

Traditionally, a groom doesn’t have as much commotion surrounding his attire. It’s some cases, it’s an after thought. But it’s about time this changes (and thankfully, it’s already begun to!). Here are our 3 tips for getting a groom’s appearance picture perfect.

1. Put your own spin on things
A suit not his thing? Cater the grooms outfit to his style. If he loves dressing up – go all out – and don’t be afraid to ditch the classic greys and blacks. Blue suits are currently a huge trend in men’s wedding wear. If he prefers comfy and casual, lose the jacket and vest. Often, a well designed button-up can be just as handsome as a full suit. Don’t forget to accessorize! A hat, a statement watch, some snazzy suspenders, and printed socks are just a few examples of how a groom can accessorize to help make his outfit go from typical to stand out. In the same way that the perfect pair of earrings can compliment a brides updo and dress, a stylish watch peeking out from the grooms jacket pulls everything together.

2. Tailor, tailor, tailor
Let’s just talk about how a tailored suit vs. one straight from the rack can sometimes feel the same as life or death. Okay, we’re being way dramatic. But the difference can be astounding. Thanks to this article from Business Insider, we can take a quick glance at a perfect example of how tailoring is the game changer – below are 2 images pulled from the website, pre and post tailoring:

3. Bring in the big guns (err, combs)
In our opinion, if there was a single thing most important to a grooms appearance? We pick GOOD HAIR (if he’s bald or opting for a hat, then we pick both tips 1 &2 above as the most important, wink*). Bringing in a barber to touch up the grooms (and groomsmen!) mop is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Not only does it get the men in tip top shape (and have them feeling confident), but it’s an extra fun photo-op, too! A bride’s hair is never an after thought – the groom’s shouldn’t be, either.

We can’t wait to see all those stylish grooms this summer, happy planning!
